IRCC has shared the latest data for Jan to April (Q1) Canada study visa application processing and approval. 2024 Q1: IRCC Reviews 152000 Canada Study Visas Approves 50% Only.
With an aim to approve 292,000 study visas, Canada seems to be showing a fall in visa processing and approval rates. At a glance, such changes stem from the many updates IRCC has introduced since the Jan 2024. Some of the notable Canada study visa updates are:
Due to the new updates, we see a fall in the processing of study visa applications. In March 2024, IRCC processed 33,000 study applications. Whereas in March 2023 this number was at 77,000.
Besides, the processing time is also rising. As of March 2024, the processing period is 10.6 weeks. Also, for March 2023 this period was 9.8 weeks. Besides, in 2024, we see a processing timeline of 14.8 weeks as of May 2024. Further, for Indian students, we see 4000 Canada study visa applications being processed in Mar 2024.
As a result, IRCC reviewing 152,000 study applications and approving 50% (76, 307) only seems legit. In comparison, to the 2022 and 2023 figures, the 2024 figures seem very low. But such a drop is expected due to the new study visa updates coming in.
However, Canada aims to process 60% of application intake for 2024. As a result, the current processing and approval rate will go up.
In addition, we see a dramatic shift in the source countries for Canada study visa in 2024. The following is the list:
2024 Q1 shows 152,000 Canada Study Visas being processed with 50% approvals. But such a figure is supposed to change in the upcoming months. Despite a long list of study visa changes, Canada aims to protect the rights of international students entering Canada.
A common narrative arising is that the country is now targeting students whose study programs directly align with in-demand occupations. So, despite the cap and restrictions your study program will now hold a greater importance.
Besides, the study visa to work to the PR visa route is a famous pathway for international students. But Master’s and PhD students are the ones who can greatly benefit from this pathway.
Whereas for the rest they can follow the same pathway. But can not take their partners to Canada along with them.
