Canada continues to process Visa, eTA, Study and Immigration applications.
Share with :

Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship and Canada (IRCC) is processing visa and electronic travel authorization (eTA) applications.

Canada is mainly focusing on processing Temporary Foreign Worker applications for medical and agri-food industries. Because these industries meet Canada’s food security and medical needs.

On April 10, 2020, IRCC announced it will continue to process study visa applications. But it will process study applications to a certain limit. Earlier for study visa, the deadline for submitting biometrics was 30 days. Now the same has been increased to 90 days.

Unfortunately, some visa centres are closed due to COVID-19. But Canada is allowing entry of students with a study permit issued before March 18, 2020, when the travel restrictions were applied.

Also, only permanent residents who have a Canada PR issued before March 18, 2020, can enter the country.

Travel restrictions are pausing the processing of non-essential visitor visa applications. But the government sees it as a way to redirect resources to essential services.

Canada urges foreign workers to apply for Immigration

During the current global pandemic situation, Canada is standing strong. It is taking all steps necessary. From investing in the economy to giving immigration instructions, Canada is making everyone is safe and provided for. Thus, IRCC is assuring that it will keep rolling out measures to relax and ease the immigration process. So, that all applications continuously process under various Canada immigration programs.

On April 01, 2020, IRCC shared the latest immigration instructions. These instructions are in addition to the Mar 18, 2020 travel restrictions, which is still applicable.

Anyone entering Canada must:

  • Self-isolate for 14 days.
  • Do not break the Quarantine Act or regulations, or
    • The temporary foreign worker will receive a fine of up to $75,000 CDN;
    • If causing health damage by breaking the rules temporary foreign worker will receive a fine of $1,000,000 CDN; or
    • Jail term up to 3 years, or both.

Who is free from restrictions under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP)?

Travel restrictions do not apply to some temporary workers if they:

  • Are permitted to do so by an Emergency Order;
  • Chief Public health Officer (CPHO) of Canada identifies their work as important.

Such workers are free from the mandatory 14-days self-isolation term. This includes people who:

  • deliver medical supplies;
  • trade and transportation workers, for both goods and people;
  • Workers regularly crossing the border to work in Canada, including workers from health care or critical infrastructure sector;
  • And workers giving or receiving important services. Such as emergency medical services related to the outbreak of the disease.
