Did IRCC application backlog fall to 1006500?

Canada amidst a wave of changes and updates is flaring well against the changing immigration scenario. The Maple Leaf country is surprisingly working efficiently towards strengthening its borders, upgrading the immigration system via digitalisation and hiring adequate staff to ensure smooth functioning. All this is possible with the 1.3 billion investment in the Canadian immigration framework. This brings us to the question, “Did IRCC application backlog fall to 1006500?”.

With such hefty plans in action, the IRCC’s application backlog is bound to shrink. But what does this mean for people who are yet to submit or are awaiting a decision on their visa applications? The answer is positively good. Because with a shrinking backlog, more applicants will receive speedy processing.

As per IRCC’s latest report (Nov 30, 2024), the following is the status of its inventory:

  • Firstly, there are 2,267,700 applications in all IRCC inventories.
  • Secondly, out of these 1,006,500 applications are in backlog.
  • Also, 1,261, 200, applications are within the service standards.
  • Besides, if we further break down the above backlog data then we see:
    • Temporary residence visa applications – 1,212,000 applications. Out of which 46% (562,200) are within service standards.
    • Permanent residence visa applications – 8,28,600 applications. Out of which 62% (510,600) are within service standards.
    • Citizenship applications – 227,100 applications. Out of which 188,000 applications are within service standards.

Moreover, IRCC’s application backlog did fall to 1006500. Also, the department aims to process 80% of applications within service standards. This gives space and time for other complex cases, where IRCC may need additional documents or sees some delays.
