The new year cap on study visas is back again. Canada to process 505162 study visa applications in 2025. As per the latest federal government notice on Jan 18, 2025, Canada is again capping the intake of study visa applications. This cap applies from Jan 22 to Dec 31, 2025. Besides, for 2024, the country set a cap of 606,250 with a target of accepting 485,000 study visa applications.
In 2025, Canada is yet to share the target they expect to meet. Thus, for now, we know that Canada will process 505162 study visa applications.
In addition, provincial and territorial governments have already been assigned their student intake quota based on the 505162 cap.
The current cap on international student intake is not new. But in 2024, the federal government announced the cap to work on the Canadian immigration intake and integrity immediately. Another strong reason was to tackle the housing issue and market inflation.
In 2024, many grave cases were popping up where international students were being exploited by landlords. Also, the number of homeless students was rising alarmingly. This is in addition, to the consistent study visa scams popping up.
So, take make a strong corrective change Canada is implementing a cap on student intake. This gives the federal government a chance to ensure the safe entry of international students. And to make sure they get all the premium services that the country is known to offer.
Furthermore, this resulted in PGWP restrictions, PAL requirements, a rise in proof of funds requirements etc. So, keeping the tradition of 2024 alive, in 2025, 505162 study visa applications will go through processing.
