If you are from the agriculture and agri-food industry, then you may no longer get Canadian permanent residency. As IRCC closes Agri-food pilot for Canada PR visa. The Agri-food pilot program will no longer accept new applications as of Feb 13, 2025. Because the program has filled its allocated slots.
However, if you applied before the above date, then IRCC will continue to process your application for the Canada PR visa.
In case you have not yet applied then you will have to seek alternate permanent residency pathways for the same.
The agri-food pilot is a 3-year pilot program. However, it received an extension in 2023, with a deadline of May 14, 2025. Pilot programs do have a possibility of either getting closure or becoming permanent.
Such as the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) become Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), after a strong successful run.
But for the agri-food pilot, no such information or hint has been shared. Thus, one will have to wait for further IRCC directions on whether it will get an extension, closure or will become a permanent program.
The Agri-food pilot, as the name suggests, targets specific industries in the agriculture and agri-food sectors. Such as meat production, greenhouse, nursery and floriculture, animal husbandry etc.
The goal is to meet the demand for foreign skilled workers quickly and meet the overall economic goals. To do the same, this program has been offering Canada PR to potential candidates.
