In 2025 Canada is making headlines, be it immigration changes or the start of selection of temporary/permanent residence applicants with full force. However, the current news tops it all as Canada beats US passport to gain 7th rank in 2025 index.
This is the first time that the country has beaten a strong passport rank holder like the US to advance higher. This is clear from the latest Henley and Partners Passport Rankings for 2025. This index is globally accepted and ranks the countries as per the strength of their passports. Keeping in mind the ease of entry the passport gives to its holders while travelling to other countries.
Thus, in 2025, Canada is offering access to 188 countries to its passport holders. Another notable thing is that the country shares the 7th Rank in 2025 index with Malta and Poland.
However, since the index came into existence in 2006, this is the first time Canada has beaten the US to claim a higher position. The US fell from 7th position to the current 9th rank in 2025.
If we look at Canada we are seeing progress in the strength of its passport. Because in 2023, the Canada held 8th rank, whereas in 2024 and now in 2025, it is latching on the 7th rank consistently.
In addition, we see other countries changing their visa regulations for Canadian passport holders. Egypt and Brazil have removed visa restrictions, but Gabon and Togo now require Canadians to have a prior visa to enter.
One must also note that in 2004 Canada ranked 4th. However, since then due to multiple economic, political, and social changes, we see Canada settling at 7th rank in 2025.
