Education made accessible with Canada study visa

Education is the most important part of one’s life. It is the backbone of a successful life and to build your future you must invest in the same. As a result, Canada’s A-class education is just what you need to apply for. Because not only Canada is a hot study destination for international students but also offers high salaried jobs to graduates.

Canada Study Visa – A two-part process

Canada’s educational institutes are all set to welcome international students for its fall and winter semester. So if you too wish to study in Canada then apply now. To avoid slow processing of study permits, IRCC recommends applying before 2-3 months of the start of the semester. As, in the case of visa rejection, you can reapply in due time.

Part A

Step 1 – The search
  • Firstly, choose the university that best suits your needs such as:
    • Choice of a study program
    • Location of university
    • Easy access to travel, stay and other necessities
    • Overall Budget
  • Secondly, check if you meet the study program requirements to apply
  • Also, collect all documents needed
Step 2 – Apply to the university

To apply, you must:

  • Submit a complete application
  • Submit all supporting documents, translated to English/French (if required)
  • Letter of Explanation
    • Reason for the choice of university and the study program
    • Show understanding of all rules and regulations as a student
  • Overall, agree to follow all university terms if accepted.
Step 3 – Acceptance Letter

If you are selected, you will receive a Letter of Acceptance from the university you applied for. After that apply for a Canada study visa to IRCC.

Part B

Step 4 – Prepare a complete application

To do so check your eligibility to study in Canada such as:

  • Be admitted in a designated learning institution i.e. Canadian education institution
  • Submit proof of funds for:
    • Paying tuition fees
    • Ability to meet living expenses for self and any other family member(s) coming to Canada
    • Proof of returning to home country with any other family member(s)
  • Must not have a criminal record
    • Submit a police report, if applicable
  • Submit medical records, if applicable
  • Further, agree to leave Canada once the study permit expires

Step 5 – Apply to IRCC for a Study Visa

To apply to IRCC, either apply online or mail your application. Also, with your study permit application submit supporting documents such as but not limited to:

  • Letter of acceptance from a Canadian university
  • Letter of Explanation
  • Language test results for English/French
    • Submit a copy of one of the following test results IELTS/CELPIP/TCF/TEF
    • Test results must not be more than 2 years old at the time of application
  • A valid passport or travel document
  • Proof of funds
    • Submit bank statements for the past 4 months
    • Proof of Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)
    • Proof of education or student loan
    • Receipt of tuition and housing fees
    • Bank draft convertible to Canadian dollars
    • Proof of scholarship, or
    • Letter by a person or school giving you money
  • Reference letters or any other document (if asked by IRCC)
  • A valid Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) or visitor visa (temporary resident visa)
  • Certificat d’acceptation du Québec, for Quebec
  • Receipt of payment of study permit fees

Note – IRCC may ask an applicant to appear for an interview and/or give biometrics at a visa centre.

Step 6 – Maintain status post-approval

Finally, IRCC will accept your application if you meet all the terms and conditions and will give a Letter of Introduction and a travel visa (if applicable). So, you can come to Canada at the Port of Entry (POE) and collect your study visa from a border services officer.

Besides all applicants must meet the following terms to maintain a legal status during their study period in Canada:

  • Stay enrolled in your educational institution
  • Must work towards the completion of the study program
  • Meet terms of the study permit
  • Stop studying, if you do not meet the terms of the study permit
  • And leave Canada as soon as the study permit expires
