Canada targets 893 PNP applicants in new Express Entry draw

Feb 01, 2023: Canada targets 893 PNP applicants in new Express Entry draw number 239. Besides, Canada is holding a PNP-targeted Express Entry draw after a gap of 6 months. As the last such draw was held on June 22, 2022. And selected 636 applicants with a CRS cut-off of 752.

However, the current draw selected a total of 893 applicants. Also, the CRS cut-off is set at 733. Besides, the tie-breaker rule applied to this draw is set at December 09, 2022, at 10:49:57 UTC.

If you have the Invitation to Apply (ITA) in this draw, then it is because you have:

  • Firstly, applied to 1 of the EE sub-streams such as:
    • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
    • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
    • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Secondly, meet Human Capital Factors:
    • Age
    • Education
    • Work Experience
    • Language Skills
  • Also, have a provincial nomination certificate under PNP.
  • Finally, match or exceed the Express Entry draw CRS cut-off of 733.

893 applicants get ITA in Express Entry PNP draw. How to get the same?

The Express Entry (EE) System is Canada’s topmost permanent residency pathway. This is because it processes PR visa applications within 6-8 months. As a result, this is one of the fastest PR visa application management systems among all the PR pathways in Canada. So, to get a PR visa you must first qualify to apply. After meeting the eligibility terms and applying, your profile will enter an Express Entry (EE) pool. Here, your profile will get a CRS rank. This becomes the basis on which you must match or exceed the EE draw CRS cut-off to get an ITA for a PR visa.

After getting an ITA you can submit a complete and error-free Canada permanent residency visa application to IRCC. However, each profile gets a different CRS rank as per the information they give. As a result, it becomes difficult to match the CRS cut-off in periodic EE draws. But one of the ways of increasing your CRS rank/score is to get a PNP nomination.

To do the same you can apply to one of the participating provinces/territories under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Because once you get a nomination against your EE profile you will get an extra 600 CRS score in the EE pool. This raises your chances of getting an ITA for submitting a PR visa application to IRCC. This is also the reason why the Express Entry + PNP pathway is becoming the topmost choices for foreign immigrants to immigrate to Canada.

How is the current Express Entry (EE) PNP-specific draw unique?

Besides, the current draw is also special because this is the first time since the NOC 2021 update that IRCC has targeted PNP applicants. Because of the NOC update, 16 occupations become eligible to apply whereas 3 eligible occupations become ineligible to apply. In addition, IRCC had clearly stated that the CRS cut-off will no longer be the only parameter for the selection of applicants for PR visas. But can also include in-demand occupations, language ability etc.

Such a proposal is to meet the increasing labour market needs of Canada. Because the country has up to 1.2 million and rising job vacancies. Thus, seeing occupation-targeted EE draws should not come as a surprise. Thus, it will be interesting to see how future Express Entry (EE) draws unfold. And how many applicants qualify to move to Canada.
