Canadian Immigration Scheme

The Introduction of Global Talent Stream (GTS) by the Canadian government was a two year-Pilot project. But by observing its popularity among Indians, with Science and technology background, who are interested in immigration, the Canadian government is planning to give the GTS program extension.

In a recent survey, a total of 40,000 jobs were created by the GTS Scheme.

To point out, the processing time of the Candidates for Canadian permanent residency under the GTS program is much quicker. Furthermore, with the US regulating its H-1B visa allotment process, Indians are choosing Canada for education, livelihood, and permanent settlement.

Introduction to Global Talent Stream (GTS)

To explain, the GTS scheme is a Canadian immigration scheme which allows Indians having a background in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) to apply for jobs in Canada.  Additionally, Indians currently based in the US can also avail of the program.

Interestingly, the processing time of the application in the GTS scheme is two weeks.

The GTS schemes enable the companies to acquire skilled employees from across the globe with the aim of diversifying the work environment.

Moreover, The GTS also focusses on striving for innovation in Companies.

Under GTS there are 2 categories:

  • Category A focuses on Start-ups, which asks for employers’ validation as innovations companies or startups by referral partners such as regional development agencies.
  • Category B includes sponsoring specialized hires and submitting their application to the government on their behalf.

 Edge to Indian Applicants

The Canadian government considers permanent resident applications on Express entry route. The GST work scheme, therefore, gives an edge to Indians to become more attractive applicants.

In 2017, the applications in the Express Entry System from Indians was almost 42%. Similarly, in 2018, there was a 50% increase in Indians opting for Canadian citizenship.

To conclude, Canada, as compared to other countries, allows a faster and fairer process for permanent residency.
