Germany News (Berlin)- In an event organized by the Germany Immigration Foundation (Deutschlandstiftung Integration (DSI) on 15th May. Angel Merkel addressed young foreign migrants from an immigration background.
The gathering was to mark the 70th anniversary of the passing of the German Constitution (Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland).
Moreover, the event ‘GO Your Own Way’ is a DSI initiative which helps in assisting the integration of young individuals with different immigration backgrounds into the German workforce.
While addressing the crowd, Merkel reminded that 19 million Germans, approximately one-quarter of the total German population of 83 million have an immigration background. Further, she stated that the “economic and social viability of Germany depends on the successful immigration and integration of the foreign migrants”.
To point out, focusing on the country’s horrific past, Merkel appealed that Germans had a huge responsibility in order to ensure continued peace and prosperity in the future.
Significantly, the event was organized to celebrate a 70th birthday which is on the 23rd of May. To emphasize, the adoption of the German constitution was done in 1949. After the reunification of East Germany and West Germany in 1990, the country follows the same constitution.
Mentioning the Constitution, Merkel said that one of the most prime features of the constitution is the promotion of integrity and diversity, which is a core German values.
The German Immigration Foundation creates campaigns seek to mentor and support people of immigrant background to enter the German workforce.
The projects target people between the age of 18 and 29 only. Usually, there is an intake of 150 mentees per year. Further, the allocation of a mentor is done to the migrants. Moreover, providing them individual assistance for their successful integration in the German workforce.
