The Rural Community Immigration Class pathway is for foreign skilled workers who wish to settle in rural Canadian communities. The program aims to meet the urgent labour and economic needs of the participating communities. And will now serve as a new Canada PR pathway.

 

What are the eligibility criteria for the new Canada Rural Community Class pathway?

Detailed Criteria of New Canada Rural Community Class Pathway

Education

  • Firstly, have a minimum of a secondary school diploma or a higher-level degree.
  • Secondly, if you have a Canadian degree or diploma, submit transcripts for the same.
  • For outside Canada degree or diploma holders, submit an ECA report.

 

Work Experience

  • Firstly, have a minimum of 1 year of full-time work experience (or equivalent in part-time).
  • Secondly, this work experience must have been gained within 3 years before applying for Canada PR.
  • Also, must match your NOC code and listed responsibilities.
  • Besides, have this work experience with a third-party employer.
  • But if you have Canadian work experience then you must have valid work authorisation and resident status.
  • Moreover, work experience is correlated to the NOC code of your job offer such as:

 

Job Offer NOC Work Experience must be in the following NOCs
0 0, 1, 2, or 3
1 0, 1, 2, or 3
2 1, 2, 3, or 4
3 2, 3, or 4
4 2, 3, or 4
5 5

 

  • But the work experience requirement does not apply to international graduates, if:
    • They studied full-time.
    • Have received their credentials within the last 18 months.
    • Master’s/PhD degree (below 2 years program) holders have lived in the community they intend to work during the program.
    • Other programs candidates have lived for 16 out of 24 months before graduating in the community.

 

Job Offer

  • Firstly, your job offer must be from a genuine and designated Canadian employer.
  • Secondly, must be for a full-time, permanent job and not seasonal.
  • Also, must be for a designated community. And you will be working 75% of the time in the community.
  • Besides, your job offer must match your education or work experience as per NOC.
  • Moreover, you must have recent work experience in the occupation of your job offer. Unless you are exempt (such as a nurse) or are an international graduate (studied in Canada).

 

Language Skills

Your language skills must be as per the NOC category of your job offer such as:

NOC TEER Category Language Skill Level (CLB)
0 or 1 6 or above
2 or 3 5 or above
4 or 5 4 or above

 

Also, you must submit language test results that are not more than 2 years old. Besides, you can submit the following test results:

  • English – IELTS / CELPIP / PTE Core Test
  • French – TCF / TEF

 

Proof of Funds

To apply to the new Canada Rural Immigration PR pathway, you must have sufficient proof of funds. This shows that you can handle yourself and any accompanying family members for a minimum of 1 year when you settle in a designated rural community. 

The amount must be 50% of the low-income limit for rural areas outside major cities (as per Canada Statistics). Besides, the proof of funds requirement does not apply to applicants who are already working in Canada.

 

Agree to Settle in a Rural Community

As an applicant, you must agree to settle in a designated rural community under the new Canada Rural Immigration PR Pathway. To do so you will have to get a valid certificate of recommendation from an economic development organisation.

Please note that this certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of issuance.
