Occupations in Demand stream

The Occupations in Demand stream helps Nova Scotia to hire skilled workers in the NOC C, intermediate-skilled occupations which are in high labour market demand in the province.

Besides, Occupations in Demand is a 3-year pilot stream. Also, it is currently open to 2 occupations:

• NOC 3413 (Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates); and
• NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers).

To apply, you must have a full-time, permanent job offer in one of the above-mentioned jobs.

What are the terms you must meet to apply under this Occupations in demand stream of the NSNP?

To apply, meet the terms of the following factors such as:

Job offer

Under this stream, your job offer must meet terms such as:

• Must be in a NOC 3413 (nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates) or NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers);
• Must be for a Nova Scotia employer. Also, the work location must be in the province too;
• Have a long term, permanent job offer;
• Finally, must be full time, regular (a minimum of 30 hours per week).

Besides, your occupation in-demand job offer cannot be for a position where:

• You are a seasonal, part-time, or casual worker;
• In a sales position that offers commission for compensation;
• Are in Canada in the Caregiver Program;
• Your job is not based in Nova Scotia;
• Working for a home-based business employer;
• Are self-employed;
• Plan to start a business and/or becoming self-employed;
• Are a majority shareholder in a Nova Scotia business;
• Also, if you are a passive investor in a Nova Scotia business with no intent running day to day activities of the business).

Work Experience

You must have:

• A minimum of 12 months (1560 hours) of work experience within the past 5 years;
• This work experience must be related to the position and skills of the job.
• Also, submit reference letters for the same.

Education level and Training

At the time of applying to the program meet the terms such as:

• You must have a minimum of high school diploma; and
• Have required training, skills and or accreditation for the job;
• Also, if applicable, must have required licensing or certification in NS.

Language Skills

All applicants must submit proof of job-ready English/French. To do so you can submit test results for either English – IELTS/CELPIP or French – TCF/TEF. Also, these test results must prove that you have minimum CLB/NCLC 4 level in all 4 language skill areas. Such as listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Besides, language test results must not be more than 2 years old at the time of applying to the program.

Immigration Status

You must submit

• A copy of valid passports/travel documents
  • Copy of valid passports of you and your family;
  • Copy of visa if the country of residence is different from the country of origin;
  • If applicable, proof of past temporary residence permits;
  • Also, proof of past applications to federal and provincial Canada immigration programs.
• Give proof of legal status if the country of residence is different from the country of origin.

Adaptability and Intent to Settle in Nova Scotia

To apply to the Skilled Worker Program, you must also give proof of an intent to live settle and work in the province. You can do so by giving:

• An explanation for choosing Nova Scotia to settle and how it benefits you and your family;
• You can give details of plans for residence, transportation, employment/job, schools or childcare, language training programs and step to integrate into the community.
