OINP Express Entry Stream

The OINP Express Entry stream selects foreign workers with high skills from the EE pool. This stream of OINO is in link with the Express Entry (EE) System. Thus, the name OINP Express Entry Stream.

Under the OINP Express Entry Stream, OINP can select you from 1 of the following sub-streams:

1. Human Capital Priorities Stream
2. French Speaking Skilled Worker Program
3. Skilled Trades Stream

Human Capital Priorities Stream 

The OINP OINP Express Entry Stream – Human Capital Priorities Stream targets foreign skilled workers from the Express Entry Pool. It looks for profiles with good education, work experiences, language and other skills.

If you have the right skills, then OINP will select your profile. To qualify you must have an active EE profile. Also, you must show interest to apply to OINP in your EE profile.

Remember, you can not apply directly to this stream. You need to get a Notification of Interest (NOI) from OINP on your Express Entry Profile.

How does it work?

OINP selects profiles from the EE Pool if:

1. Firstly, if your skills are in demand in Ontario.
2. Secondly, you meet the terms for OINP Express Entry Stream – Human Capital Priorities Stream.
3. Also, have an active EE profile.
4. Besides, want to settle and work in Ontario.

How can you qualify for this stream?

Your profile can qualify for OINP Express Entry Stream – Human Capital Priorities Stream if:

• Have applied to one of the Express Entry (EE) sub-streams such as the:
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
• Besides, if applying to FSWP:
  • Must have a minimum of 67 points out of 100 on the FSW 6 selection factors.
  • Because then only you can qualify to apply to EEE FSWP sub-stream.

CRS Selection factors – Language skills, Age, Education, Work Experience, Job Offer and Adaptability.

1. You meet the work experience requirements for OINP.
2. You have a Canadian post-secondary degree. Or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report verifying foreign education degree as equal to Canada’s post-secondary education.

Note: The ECA report cannot be more than 5 years old at the time of applying for OINP.

1. You prove that you have good language skills. To apply you need to have the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 score or above. You need to show proficiency in all language skills – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

OINP will assess this skill after seeing your language test results. Your test score cannot be more than 2 years at the time of applying. You can show IELTS/CELPIP/TEF Canada/TCF Canada scores for English and French.

1. Show the intent of living in Ontario.
2. Show legal/implied status in Canada.
3. Have enough funds for settlement costs in Ontario.

Work Experience Needs:

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

If you decide to go through the EE FSWP stream, then you need to show proof of eligibility. You need to show that you have a continuous, regular, full-time job. This job can be full-time/part-time for 1 year, within 5 years in Canada or a foreign country.

There are certain terms that you need to see for valid work experience. Firstly, full-time work refers to 30 hours in a week. And 1560 hours in a year. Secondly, OINP will not consider either 1560 hours in less than a year or volunteer work.

Also, there cannot be any gaps in your work experience. You must show work experience in the same job for at least a year. This job must be on the NOC list to qualify. Further, a part-time job refers to 15 hours in a week. And 1560 hours in 2 years. Or 30 hours minimum in a week or 1560 hours in a year. Finally, your job must come under the NOC list to be eligible for OINP.

Self-Employment

FSWP applicants can apply if they are self-employed. They need to show proof of the same. The terms are the same under this option. You need to show 1560 hours in a year. You need to show third party proof of your occupation. But, OINP will not consider business partners, family members and reference letters. So, you must show valid proof like invoices as proof of valid work experience.

In the end, your work must come under NOC Skill Type 0, A, or B.

Canadian Experience Class

If you decide to go through this stream, then you need to meet certain terms. You will have to show proof of a continuous full-time/part-time paid job in Canada. This experience can be within 3 years. Before applying you need to keep certain terms in mind. Firstly, your full-time job must show 30 hours in a week or 1560 hours in 1 year. Secondly, for part-time you need 15hours in a week and 1560 hours in a year. Also, for multiple part-time jobs, you need 30hours in a week or 1560hours in 1 year. Thirdly, you need to have legal status while working in Canada. Finally, OINP does not consider volunteer work, unpaid internship, or self-employment. And work done while studying full-time in a post-secondary institute.

How to Apply?

You can only apply to the OINP Express Entry Stream – Human Capital Priorities Stream. But if you receive an NOI from Ontario. You will receive the invite in your Express Entry profile. Besides, this NOI is valid for 45 days. So, you must apply before this time.

Step by Step Process

1. You need to check whether you come to FSWP or Canadian Express Class.
2. You need to create an Express Entry profile.
3. OINP will identify your profile in the Express Entry Profile.
4. OINP will then send you NOI to apply.
5. You need to apply within 45 days under Human Capital Priorities Stream after getting NOI.
6. If OINP selects your profile, then you get a Nomination Approval letter and an OINP Certificate. You will have 30 days to accept your selection in the Express Entry System.
7. If OINP accepts your profile, then you will get an extra 600 CRS points. And, an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
8. After receiving ITA you will have 60 days to apply to IRCC for Canadian permanent residence.

French Speaking Skilled Worker Stream

The OINP Express Entry Stream – French Speaking Skilled Worker Stream is for French-speaking skilled workers. OINP looks for profiles with good education, work experiences, language and other skills in the EE pool.

If you have the right skills, then OINP will select your profile. To qualify you must have an active EE profile. Also, you must show interest to apply to OINP in your EE profile.

Skilled Trades Stream

This stream allows skilled trades workers with work experience in eligible trade to settle in Canada. They can come through Canada’s Federal Express Entry System. OINP selects profiles through this channel and awards an extra 600 CRS points. The candidates also get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from the Express Entry pool for permanent residence.

How can you qualify?

Your profile can qualify under this stream if you:

1. Have a valid Express Entry profile.
2. Qualify for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
3. Show an intent to live and work in Ontario or “All provinces and Territories”. This needs to be in your Express Entry profile.
4. Have a Notification of Interest (NOI) from Ontario through IRCC.

Express Entry candidates need to prove their eligibility for this stream.

Work Experience

Under this term, you have to show 1 year of paid full-time job experience within 2 years in Ontario. Your trade must be on the ‘skilled trade occupation list’. Your work must come under Minor Group 633, Or Major Group 72, 73, 0r 82 of NOC list.

There are certain terms that you need to meet under the work experience criteria. Firstly, your work experience needs to add up to one year. It does not have to be a continuous job. And full-time work refers to 30hours in a week or 1560hours in a year. Secondly, for part-time work refers to 15hours in a week or 1560hours within 2 years. Thirdly, OINP considers work experience in a paid internship. But your job duties must fall under the NOC list. Also, OINP does not consider self-employment and work experience during full-time post-secondary education. In the end, you must have a license for trade in Ontario.

Trade Certification

If you are applying for OINP then you must have a valid trade license. You can also have a valid trade certificate from the Ontario College of Trades. Also, you need to have a trade license or certificate at the time of submitting your profile.

Residence Status in Ontario

Under this, you will have to prove that you have a valid work permit. And are currently living in Ontario. Also, OINP considers profiles made while on implied status.

Language Skills

All applicants need to have a min. Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 score or more in English or French. You need to show proof of all language skills – Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking. And OINP will assess your profile as per your language test scores. And, you can show IELTS/CELPIP/TEF Canada/TCF Canada scores for English and French.

Funds for Settlement in Ontario

Every applicant must show the availability of funds for settlement. You can do this by following any of the OINP factors. This includes bank account papers, annual pay from the current job or job offer in Ontario.

Intent to reside in Ontario

You will have to show your intention to live and work in Ontario. The OINP system needs to be sure of your intention. This will help them in processing your profile accordingly. You can do this by a list of papers showing your ties to the province.

How to apply?

Candidates can not apply to OINP. First, OINP will send an NOI through your IRCC online account. Once you receive an NOI letter you need to submit your application within 45 days. After you see an application, OINP will review it. If it selects you then you will get an extra 600 CRS points and an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Finally, IRCC will process your application and you will get permanent residence within 6 months.
