The 2019 Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) results show that a high percentage of provincial nominations went to Express Entry candidates and tech workers. And half of the principal applicants were invited through one of the Express Entry linked streams. In addition to this, Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream received the most nominations out of all the OINP streams. Also, of all applicants, nearly 51% or 3,750 received nomination through Ontario’s enhanced streams. As they run in link with the federal Express Entry system.
The OINP is one of Canada’s immigration programs. It helps Ontario select foreign skilled workers who can meet the province’s labour market and economic needs. And is linked to the Express Entry system.
Express Entry is one of Canada’s main immigration pathways. And it manages profiles from 3 main economic-class immigration programs such as:
And if you apply to Express Entry then your profile gets a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This score is given as per Human Capital Factors such as:
Note
OINP Tech Draws happen under the Human Capital Priorities Stream. In 2019 33% of all nominations went to applicants with a job offer and or work experience in the tech industry. Tech applicants were required to have a job offer or work experience in an eligible tech job. And this also included software engineers and designers, computer programmers, interactive media developers, IT systems analysts, and technology consultants.
To qualify in OINP you do not need a job offer. But last year a large number of applicants with a job offer in Ontario were selected. Also, international students too were selected on a large number.
Furthermore, nominations went to people from almost 1,900 Ontario employers in every industry. These were:
In addition, Ontario selected 6.1% Francophones or applicants with high language proficiency in French. This is more than 5% of its targets. These applicants were selected under the French-Speaking Skilled Worker and the Human Capital Priorities Stream.
In 2019, Ontario selected 7,350 applicants. This included the additional 700 nominations received through an in-year re-allocation.
In addition, Ontario selected 41 applicants through its NOC C Pilot project. This project helps in-demand low skilled workers with job offers in Ontario to get permanent residence in Canada.
