Special Purpose visa

The Special Purpose visa helps applicants work in Australia. However, one can not apply for this visa. But Australia selects applicants who have a ‘prescribed status’.
Prescribed status means the following:

  • Are a member of the royal family.
  • An official guest of the Australian government
  • Are a member of some armed forces
  • Are on a foreign armed ship
  • An airline crew member
  • Are the spouse or dependent of the main applicant who has a prescribed status.

The Special Purpose visa grants the following permission:

  • Until the visa holder holds a prescribed status, it can come and stay in Australia.
  • Can work regularly in Australia if it is a part of your military duties.


Validity of the Special Purpose visa

Besides, the validity of the visa will end when either the prescribed status ends, or Australia cancels the visa.


Extension of Visa

The duration of stay in Australia will end when the holder’s prescribed status ends. Thus, the visa holder will have to apply for a different visa.


Inclusion of family members

In certain cases, the applicant’s partner or dependent relative may qualify for the Special Purpose visa. To know more read the eligibility section below.


Terms to meet while holding the visa

While on this visa, the holder is to obey all legal obligations that come with the visa and its prescribed status,


Travel – To and fro from Australia

On this visa, one can come and go from Australia multiple times, until their prescribed status ends or the Australian govt cancels their visa.
