Their sponsor needs to have lived lawfully in Australia for the two years before the application is lodged.<\/p>\n<p>There can be long waiting times of up to\u00a030 years before this visa is approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An individual might be able to get an Aged Parent visa (subclass 804) if they:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have a child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen<\/li>\n<li>Meet the\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">age requirements<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Meet the balance-of-family test<\/li>\n<li>Meet<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0health<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">character<\/a>\u00a0requirements<\/li>\n<li>Have a sponsor who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What this visa allows for:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This permanent residence visa allows the individual and any of their family members who have also been granted this visa:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stay in Australia indefinitely<\/li>\n<li>Work and study in Australia<\/li>\n<li>Enroll in\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Medicare<\/a>,\u00a0Australia\u2019s scheme for health-related care and expenses<\/li>\n<li>Apply for Australian citizenship(if they are eligible)<\/li>\n<li>Sponsor\u00a0eligible relatives for permanent residence<\/li>\n<li>Travel to and from Australia for five years from the date the visa is granted (after that time, they will need a resident return\u00a0visa or another visa to return to Australia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The visa application charges are listed in\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fees and charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0visa application charge for this visa is paid in two instalments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pay the first installment when the\u00a0application is lodged.<\/li>\n<li>Pay the second installment when told to. It must be paid for the visa to be granted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is significant demand for this visa and places are limited. An individual could wait up to\u00a030 years to have this visa granted.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of waiting, an individual could consider a Contributory Aged Parent visa, which is usually finalised in less than two years:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884)<\/a>\u00a0gives a two-stage visa pathway in which an individual can first apply for a temporary visa and later for a permanent visa<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864)\u00a0<\/a>is a permanent visa that lets an individual pay the full costs of Contributory Parent migration through just one visa application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If an individual applies for a Contributory Parent visa, they will pay a higher application charge. A longer assurance of support with a larger bond would also be required before they could be granted a\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864)<\/a>.
