You\u00a0must be outside Australia when you lodge your application and when the visa is granted.\u00a0You can have the wedding in any country: the wedding does not need to be in Australia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An individual must-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intend to marry and live as husband or wife with their prospective spouse<\/li>\n<li>Be sponsored by their prospective spouse<\/li>\n<li>Know their prospective spouse and have met in person<\/li>\n<li>Be the opposite sex to their prospective spouse (same-sex couples can apply for\u00a0 a\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Partner visa<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0based on their de facto relationship)<\/li>\n<li>Meet age,\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">health<\/a>\u00a0and<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0character\u00a0<\/a>requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Proof of intent to marry:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The application must include proof that the individual plans to marry their prospective spouse within nine months of being granted the visa.<\/p>\n<p>If an individual plans to marry outside Australia, they can provide a letter from the person who will perform the wedding ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>If they plan to marry in Australia, they must complete a\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0<em>Notice of Intended Marriage<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0form\u00a0and give it to the person who will perform the wedding ceremony. This must be done at least one month, and less than 18 months, before they marry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What this visa allows for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This visa allows an individual to-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter Australia before they marry their prospective spouse<\/li>\n<li>Travel in and out of Australia as often as they\u00a0want<\/li>\n<li>Work in Australia, although some employers might not hire people with temporary visas<\/li>\n<li>Study in Australia, but with no access to government funding for tertiary study<\/li>\n<li>Apply for a\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Partner visa<\/a>, in Australia, after their marriage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Costs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The visa application charges are listed in\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fees and charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An individual might have to pay other costs, such as the costs of health assessments, police certificates, or any other certificates or tests. They are responsible for making the necessary arrangements.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>The sponsor:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The individual must be sponsored by their prospective spouse. They must be at least 18 years of age and either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An Australian citizen<\/li>\n<li>An Australian permanent resident<\/li>\n<li>An\u00a0<a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eligible New Zealand citizen<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>The prospective spouse:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The individual must have met their prospective spouse in person, as adults. They must know them personally.<\/p>\n<p>This applies even if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an arranged marriage<\/li>\n<li>They and their prospective spouse met as children and the marriage was arranged before they turned 18 years of age<\/li>\n<li>They met on the internet (exchanging photographs is not evidence of having met in person).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Limitations on sponsorship:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>An individual cannot be a sponsor if they:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Were sponsored for a Partner or Prospective Spouse visa within the past five years<\/li>\n<li>Have previously sponsored two people for migration to Australia and they were granted a Partner or Prospective Marriage visa<\/li>\n<li>Have sponsored another person for migration to Australia within the past five years and they were granted a Partner or Prospective Marriage visa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Their sponsorship could still be approved if there are compelling circumstances affecting them.
