Canada is delaying all PGP applications due to govt’s efforts to tackle coronavirus.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Parents and Grandparents program is one of Canada\u2019s most popular immigration programs.\u00a0And the country has been looking for\u00a0new steps to handle the application intake. But\u00a0because of the recent COVID-19 pandemic<\/strong>, Canada has decided to delay the opening of 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As per IRCC<\/strong>, the launch of the call of expressions of interest<\/strong> to apply for this program was to happen recently.\u00a0But the govt is now pushing forward the release date to the near future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, IRCC\u00a0continues to process all applications. And is expecting that the delay of call of expressions of interest will not affect the parents and grandparents arriving in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parents and Grandparents Program is a mega-hit<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The PGP program helps Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to get permanent resident status in Canada. And in 2019, some 100,000 Canadians and permanent residents expressed their interest to sponsor.<\/strong> Even though the available no of spots<\/strong> to sponsor parents and grandparents was only 21,000.<\/strong> Therefore, Canada is\u00a0set to admit 21,000 under the PGP each year. As seen in<\/strong>\u00a0the 2020-2022 Immigration Levels Plan.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

IRCC is trying to use new methods for managing the PNP.\u00a0And is trying to improve its ways. It includes the use of the first-come, first-served model. As per this method, applications are processed as per the order in which they are submitted. In addition, IRCC has tried to use the lottery method. In this method, sponsors\u00a0are selected randomly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, we are yet to see what approach IRCC will take when it launches the PGP soon.<\/span><\/p>\n
