Agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone of the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), sustaining the livelihoods and cultural identity of the Mising community. Primarily practicing subsistence farming, Mising farmers cultivate rice, pulses, vegetables, and fruits using traditional methods passed down through generations. The fertile lands of the region, coupled with the rich biodiversity of the Brahmaputra valley, support diverse agricultural practices. The MAC prioritizes agricultural development through initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices, and improving market access for farmers. Extension services, training programs, and technological interventions are utilized to empower farmers and strengthen agricultural resilience in the face of environmental challenges. Furthermore, agriculture serves as a means of preserving traditional knowledge and cultural heritage within the Mising community. By promoting self-sufficiency and food security, agriculture contributes significantly to the socio-economic development and well-being of the Mising people while upholding their values and way of life.
